YA Day Melbourne Writers Festival
The 2019 Melbourne Writers Festival Program has been released and there are a bunch of things I think will appeal to teens – in fact there is a WHOLE YA DAY! Which we could abbreviate to simply *YAY*!
Mark it on your calendars! Pencil it in your diary! Book your tickets! Set an ALARM! Because all day Sunday, September 1st, will be panels, author talks and events for teens.
The big international author appearing will be….Becky Albertalli, author of the much beloved Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda (now a major motion picture: Love, Simon), The Upside of Unrequited, Leah On the Offbeat, and the 2019 Silver Inky Longlisted What If it’s Us (co-authored with Adam Silvera).
Becky Albertalli will join journalist and LoveOzYA author Jenna Guillaume to interrogate the runaway success of Albertalli’s queer romance Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, and the book’s second life on the big screen in the form Love, Simon. They discuss passion on the page, the aching tenderness of adolescent love and how important it is for younger readers to see themselves reflected in literature.
When and Where: Sunday September 1 5.30 pm at the Capitol. BOOK HERE
Other events include a Q & A with Amie Kaufman, Why YA? with award-winning authors Randa Abdel-Fattah (When Michael Met Mina) and Melina Marchetta (The Place on Dalhousie), A Y’All for Brunch? hosted by Michael Earp and Y’All Are Thristy: Romantic FanFic Showcase with Will Kostakis and Alison Evans.
And get excited!
