Writing Workshops for Young People
Are you a poet wanting to perform at poetry slams? Are you a musician wanting to rap? Or are you just interested in exploring rhythmic writing?
State Library Victoria is partnering with Writers Victoria to present Writing For Young People – a series of workshops in the Term 3 School Holidays and young people have the opportunity to explore poetry and performance with Mantra, one of Australia’s most respected hip-hop artists.

Where: State Library Victoria Seminar Room 1 via Entry 3 Latrobe Street (has wheelchair access)
Mantra will delve into the fundamentals of hip-hop songwriting, slam poetry and spoken word performance, as well as sharing the secrets of his own creative process.
Mantra has been working in both the hip-hop and wider music industries for over a decade, since he began with Melbourne band Illzilla. His chart-topping solo albums have received widespread acclaim, earning him Feature Album of the Week on Triple J other accolades. Mantra devotes much of his creative energy to working with young people, and facilitating hip-hop workshops and mentorship programs for the disadvantaged and at-risk.
