‘Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.’ – Groucho Marx

Writing prompt: dialogue

‘Hey Amarlie, how do you feel about dialogue?’

‘Omg!’ Amarlie said. ‘I love dialogue. I love to write it, and when I’m reading I always get excited when I see a nice, large chunk of dialogue coming up.’

‘Me too!’ said unnamed voice. ‘Dialogue is great for moving a story along. Writers can do lots of plotting through dialogue between characters.’

‘Totally,’ Amarlie said. ‘I also love reading dialogue because the way a character speaks is so important to who they are. Dialogue can do so much with so little.’

‘That’s what you should do for your next writing prompt on Inside a Dog!’

‘What?’

‘Get everyone to write a story using only dialogue. See if they can write an entire story, complete with action and character development, just through dialogue.’

‘…This… is a good idea.’
