It’s NaNoWriMo time! What’s NaNoWriMo you say? Well, I did write a bit of an explaination here, and given that a few people seemed enthusiastic we’ve launched a NaNoWriMo blog on the site which anyone can join and post to so we can encourage each other towards meeting our goals. If you want to contribute just post a comment on any of the blog posts and an admin will add you.

For every post on the Inside a Dog NaNoWriMo blog you get an entry to win some 2018 Inky Awards longlisted books. Who doesn’t want to win books?

The Somerset National Poetry Prize

This one is open to all current secondary students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents attending school in Australia. Students receiving home schooling are eligible to enter.

There are two categories:
Junior Secondary – Years 7 to 9
Senior Secondary – Years 10 to 12
The winner in each category will receive $300 plus flights to attend the Somerset Storyfest. Entries close  December 7.
The Young Writers’ Award comprises two categories with up to five young authors shortlisted in each category. Each shortlisted entry will receive a $150 Redgum Book Club voucher and Certificate of Achievement. The winner of each category will receive a $250 Redgum Book Club voucher and winning entry from each category will be published as hard copy book and in e-book fromat. Entries are open to children in the 9 to 13 age group. Entries close  17 December.

World Food Day Poster

For the visual artists aged 5-19 amoung us, you might want to enter in this competition to design a poster for World Food Day. Entries close November 9.

Kids 12 years and under are invited to enter up to three poems for a chance to win one of three prizes. The theme for the 2019 Wombat Award is ‘Our Heritage’. Entries close 30 April, 2019.

The Writers Bloc

If you love writing as much as you love reading, you best be joining The Writers Bloc. This community of kick-arse writers will take your work to the next level. You can get feedback on your writing, hear about opportunities for freelance writing or jobs in the industry. Even if you’re still in high school and not quite ready to launch out into the wider world as a writer, this site is the perfect tool to extend your industry knowledge and get a picture of how publishing and editing actually work.
