‘Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.’ – Groucho Marx

Inky's Fri-yay March 29

Big news this week in Inside-a-Dog-town was of course the highly anticipated announcement of the 2019 INKY AWARDS JUDGES!

Congratulations! Some of you have blogs here so go and say hi to Alisa and Zitong We look forward to getting to know you all over the next few months.

Thank you to everyone who applied – it is a huge and very difficult task to whittle down such a strong list of candidates to just eight judges. And congratulations to the Shadow Judges too. But none of you will be reading this because of course you are all too busy reading the twenty books on the Inky Longlist!

Speaking of reading! That’s what we love to do! If you are looking for books, check out our guest post by author and book blogger Wendy Chen about how she grew to embrace contemporary fiction, complete with some recommendations and the hot off the presses just announced CBCA shortlist.

And where and how do you like to read? With a cup of tea? Up a tree? (Uh-oh I am turning into Dr Suess!) Over on Brahes Book Reviews and Other there are some tips for happy reading. Personally, I read everywhere and anywhere in any circumstances. Usually while missing my tram stop. But some of the best fun is reading together! And you can do just that! Because Sylvs at Throne of Shook is starting a book club! And if you love Lili Wilkinson books or think you will love Lili Wilkinson books (trust me- you will!) then join ellipsis in the Lili Wilkinson marathon read-a-long.First book is the Silver Inky Longlisted After the Lights Go Out.

And it’s not all about books. How about some International bookshop love from Hermione ? Or a pop quiz over at Word of the Day? Or your favourite Queen song? (If you’re asking, it’s I Want to Break Free.)

And if you’re just sick of reading and want to do something else, then chelcyg has a suggestion!

See you all next week!
