‘Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.’ – Groucho Marx

Inky's Fri-yay June 21

Another week, another judge! So please give a big Fri-yay welcome to our very own Professor Trelawney look-a-like Catalina. Don’t believe me? Go see for yourself! And make sure you say Hi! Don’t you just love that you are getting to meet all of the 2019 Inky Judges? It means you can become friends, get to know them and grow really attached to them before….they are torn from our lives in the *final battle to the death* to decide the Inky Awards Shortlist! And yes, this is totally turning into a dystopian YA book. It’s writing itself people!

BOOK BLURB: In a dystopian future ruled by a pink-haired librarian (who turns into a  shaggy black dog every full moon) there can only be ten books. Bookish teenagers are chosen to champion each title and fight to the death until only half the books remain. Which stories would you fight for? Are any books really worth dying for?

“Libraries are full of ideas—perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.” Sarah J. Maas

COMING SOON!  Yep – the 2019 Inky Awards taking on a whole new meaning.

And then there are the Shadow Judges – what role could they have in the book? Could the Shadow Judges house the Inky Judges’ souls during the battle? Feel free to give me ideas in the comments. Seriously, this book is writing itself! This week two of the Shadow Inky Judges and I went on a secret Inside a Dog mission to the Williamstown Literary Festival where we attended the two YA events, Sensory Overload and Sci-Fi vs Fantasy an Informal Debate. All very enlightening. (The debate was a draw by the way). Then our illustrious Shadow Judges got to interview a couple of authors attending the festival!

Our first interview is already up on the Inky Blog! Our ‘favourite bookworm’ imosshelf interviewed Lili Wilkinson. Lili of course has a special place here on Inside a Dog because she originally worked on the website and instigated the Inky Awards. And she is now a longlisted author with her novel After The Lights Go Out on the awards she invented. To find out how that feels you will have to read the interview! And please! Leave a comment!

For more Willy Lit Fest action have a look at Inside a Dog’s instagram feed and stay tuned for another #LoveOzYA interview coming sooooooooooooooooooooooooon.

Well by now you all know the news and the inspiration behind today’s gifs –  Suzanne Collins is releasing a prequel to The Hunger Games next year. I mean I’m so excited I used a word that doesn’t exist! Prequel – it’s just made up, right? Or is it an official word now. Perhaps I should ask ellipsis at Word of the Day? The posts keep coming, brimming with tricky vocabulary to stretch your brain and finishing off with a dose of bookish recommendations like a spoonful of sugar helping the medicine go down! This week my favourite Word of The Day word would have to be circumlocution. I mean I am probably guilty of writing many a circumlocutory blog post around here! Ha!

Also we welcome quite a few NEW BLOGS on the site. Did you hear me? NEW BLOGS! We have XOXO gossip girls, The Library Wanderers, The Pretty Perfectionists, Who REALLY are the Antagonists of Each Story?? and, the aptly named for this Fri-Yay, Read Til Ya Bleed. They are all bursting with bookishness so go and say hi and make them welcome.

Elsewhere we have Libris Vermis Book Club’s latest book discussion about 2019 Inky Award Longlisted Hive, new reviews at NOVELty reads, news on State Library Victoria’s Holiday Program, STORY CAMP (sign up!) a post about post Cursed Child blues, dragonwings singing and alisaaa dancing and some minion fun on Positive Mindset Blog.  And last week I did ask for poetry… and we got bookreader’s poetic metaphor for memories which is wonderful!

So that’s it for another week and another Fri-yay. Keep posting, keep talking, keep reading, reviewing, writing, singing, dancing, talking, smiling, vocabulising, playlisting and…

I have a confession... I haven't read The Hunger Games. Crazy, I know. I probably should someday...

Read the prequel maybe when it comes out? All you need to know is that teenagers fight to the death!

The Shadow Judges anchor the souls of the Inky Judges and lend them strength and act as oases of power.
