‘Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.’ – Groucho Marx

Fri-yay October 18 and Giveaway!

What? What are you looking at? Are you looking around the site? What have you seen that you have loved?

Have you seen the amazing short fiction over on Inspired Iris? You haven’t? What are you waiting for? There are four pieces there that will intrigue you, inspire you and move you. Great writing needs to be shared! That’s what we are here for, right?

Remember the old 2019 Inky Awards? Yeah, I know it seems like forever ago! Well there was a terrific book on the Gold Inky Shortlist called Hive by A.J. Betts and the good news is there is a sequel out now called Rogue. Want to know what it’s like? Well  imosshelf has reviewed it here for you and I have to say – I’m going out to get myself a copy.

We have an author recommendation from lauraamabel -Jodi Piccoult –  and in a strange serendipitous synchronicty we also have a review of Jodi Piccoult’s book My Sister’s Keeper from summertime. Hope you Jodi Piccoult fans all make friends! I love the last line of summertime’s review:  “My Sister’s Keeper will make you laugh through your tears, and cry through the most bittersweet moments.”

Need to get in the spooky frame of mind for Halloween? Well, Zitong has reviewed Gap Year in Ghost Town by Michael Pryor for you – and don’t forget that Michael Pryor is having a Ghost Town Ghost Walk in Melbourne on November 2 and YOU can come along! With me and some Inky Judges and Shadow Judges! Just BOOK HERE! It will be really fun! And spooky!

And keen for a classic? sorrimlate highly recommends the hilarious and brilliant Catch 22 by Joseph Heller – and I highly recommend it too. We also have a Hufflepuff Common Room post which is so Hufflepuff it might just be the cutest bit of huffpuffling ever! Eyespie is back alphabetising their way through the year – we are up to D! And of course we have POETRY! A review of Mary Oliver’s collection, Devotions AND original imaginative poetic outpourings from lauraamabel!

YAY!

Not enough for you?

Well, we have launched a new Lit Club –  if you want to get on board – just get yourself a copy of the book The Girl Who Fell  by Violet Grace and join in! And in news we alerted you all to a Garth Nix tour AND a Scott Westerfeld tour.

Which reminds me. It is now GIVEAWAY TIME!

(Let’s face it – you saw “giveaway’ in the title and you have been reading this whole thing just to get to this part here where I finally tell you about the GIVEAWAY!)
To celebrate the Scott Westerfeld tour of Australia we are giving away a copy of the first book  in the series, Impostors. All you have to do is comment below to be in with a chance to win! Winner will be announced in the next Fri-yay! GOOD LUCK!

This is actually quite funny because I started reading Impostors on Tuesday during our school library session!
I haven't made much progress yet but I do like it so far.

I absolutely demolished the Ghost Town series. And I loved reading all the posts of this week! (Please exempt me from this giveaway)

Yes, I have! I really enjoyed the book and just liked the premise from the beginning. Westerfield just seems to nail science fiction for me. It's one of the reasons I want to go to the Shatter City tour in November!

I feel like there's enough people who like Jodi Picoult to make a board where we could all post reviews? It might be quiet but could be good. Would anyone be keen?
