Set amid the austere beauty of the North Carolina coast, THE NOTEBOOK begins with the story of Noah Calhoun, a rural Southerner recently returned from the Second World War. Noah is restoring a plantation home to its former glory, and he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met fourteen years earlier, a girl he loved like no other. Unable to find her, yet unwilling to forget the summer they spent together, Noah is content to live with only memories...until she unexpectedly returns to his town to see him once again.
Like a puzzle within a puzzle, the story of Noah and Allie is just the beginning. As it unfolds, their tale miraculously becomes something different, with much higher stakes. The result is a deeply moving portrait of love itself, the tender moments and the fundamental changes that affect us all. It is a story of miracles and emotions that will stay with you forever.
also I watched the movie first which was a mistake, I was expecting to meet different characters in the pages but the ones I discovered were far more loveable and less dramatised then the movie makes them seem. NEVER judge a book by its movie. The book is bittersweet and a beautiful display of love and devotion. I want to live in this book
The Notebook” is the story of a boy from the poor side of the tracks who predictably falls for a beautiful, rich girl. Allie Hamilton. Allie pays a visit to Seabrook, North Carolina to see her family and while there, Noah Calhoun
works his 'small-town boy' charms on her. Despite disparate backgrounds, the two find they’ve got a lot in common, including a zest for life - and their need to drive each other crazy. Over the span of a hot North Carolina summer, Allie and Noah fall passionately in love with allie. But all doesn’t go to well for the mismatched pair of lovebirds. Allie’s mom puts a stop their relationship, sending Allie off to school and out of Noah’s reach. Still Noah persists until finally, seven long years later, Allie returns to Seabrook and must choose between her rich, handsome fiancée and her first love, the equally handsome but not-so-wealthy, Noah.
This is one of the most emotional novels i've ever read. The novel is well-writen and the detail allows readers to imagine themselves as if they were there.
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks is a story about two teenagers from opposite sides of the track who meet one fateful summer and fall in love for a lifetime. This novel was engaging and steady paced. I was able to read it in one sitting as I was drawn into the lives of Noah and Allie. Nicholas Sparks has created a touching story about two people who try to recapture the love they once shared despite the passage of time. Noah Calhoun is a simple boy with simple dreams. He loves poetry, his life in a small town and a girl that was never meant to be his. Allie Nelson has lived a life of riches and luxury, but she wants much more for herself. She loves art, music and spending time with a boy her parents do not approve of. As they explore their love for one another during their summer together, they realize that theirs is a love meant to last a lifetime. However, circumstances pull them apart for over 14 years and they are faced with trying to find a way to get back what they once had. I enjoyed the story, but I feel the author could have spent a little more time telling the readers about Noah and Allie’s reunion and a little more of what they went through to make a life for themselves. It was interesting to experience this story through the eyes of Noah as he enters the last chapters of his life. This novel is one of my all-time favourites loves story, it is very touching and I would encourage more readers to read this novel.
