One Choice

Decides Your Friends,

Defines Your Beliefs And

Determines Your

Loyalties . . . Forever.

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

If you have a soft spot for fantasy books, Divergent, the first book in the series by best-selling author Veronica Roth is a must have on your book shelf. Divergent takes place in the city of Chicago, in the world of Divergent. After the war and collapse of society, the city was split into 5 factions based on particular character traits; Candor, Amity, Eriudite, Dauntless and Abnegation.

Tris Prior is the main character of this series. She is a 16 year old girl who was brought up in Abnegation, but has never truly felt like she fit in with everybody. After the test and choosing ceremony which allows individuals to change what faction they live in, Tris decides to take a brave leap and choose Dauntless, the faction for the brave, hoping to find her true self. Tris soon meets Christina and Will, who become her best friends and help her as tough times lie ahead.

Meeting her instructor Tobias Eaton (Four), she soon learns that she is not like the rest and life in Dauntless becomes very challenging. Tris must try her best to stay alive, because she is known as a threat to their world. She deals with tough obstacles and stays brave throughout it all.

This book caught my eye when I looked at the cover of the novel because of the colour and silhouette pictures. Reading the novel, I wanted to always know what was going to happen next. An aspect that could have been improved is that maybe if Veronica Roth added more dominant female characters, it would have made the story more appealing. The novel had a sophisticated plot and outstanding details. Reading this novel made me want to read the rest in the series, definitely a must read, 10/10 from me.

The secrets will always be there, but she will find them

This is a great book, very well known too, since the movie came out.  I wanted to read it a long time before i did, because i couldnt get a hold of it.

Divergent is such a good book. It definitely gets a place on my top ten list. It is the first of the three books in a trilogy. It is a book set in the future, which always ropes me in. The main character, Beatrice Prior, who changes her name to “Tris”, is slowly built up over time, with the author Veronica Roth adding more layers as she goes along. The plot builds more suspense as you read it, which is very exciting. I like action, but others don't, so if you are not one for battle and tragic deaths this book is not for you.

I love the way the book drags you in and does'nt let go. I tried putting the book down but I never could. The adjectives and action packed chapters were the best. This book is fantastic for ages 12 and up. I would recommend reading it as it is a amazing novel that will catch the heart. Tris has to choose her future but will she choose wrong.
