Genre and Title:

Mad Dogs is an Action novel written by Robert Muchamore. I can tell it's an Action novel because there's guns, drugs, violence and suspense.

Setting:

The story is set in England. The main setting is "The Zoo". The Zoo is a dirty place with lots of teenagers and kids with no family or future.

Plot:

Michael and Gabrielle need help to get the mission done. Bruce and James are sent into a rival gang, the Mad Dogs. The cops are tipped off about Major Dees chains shipment and so are the Mad Dogs. Two gangs and some cops, a massive turf war is about the go down.

Characters:

Yes, I like the characters. They were all complex and fit the book. I've read other books in the CHERUB series so the characters can be predictable. The characters are interesting because they're typical teenagers and I can relate to the language they use and how they socialise.

The similarities between me and the characters is what drew me to the book. Robert Muchamore made the characters extremely realistic, the way the act, react and the decisions they make are relatable for most teenagers. I didn't dislike any of the main or semi-main characters. I didn't like the Runts, the Runts are a juvenile gang that do the Mad Dogs' dirty work. I didn't like them purely because of one of them nearly killing Gabrielle.

Authors Craft:

I didn't dislike any of the writing, every sentence was interesting. I can't provide any examples of word choice that appealed to me, nor can I provide a phrase that appealed to me.

Themes and Messages:

Gabrielle nearly getting stabbed to death definitely moved me. The Runts infuriated me because they thought they were so tough until the big gangs came along.

A theme of the book was courage. Gabrielle, James, Bruce and Michael had to show courage to take the mission and take part in the war.

Audience:

The book is suitable for early high school students (year 7-9) because there's a lot of swearing and drugs in the book.

Rating:

I rate this book 4.5/5

Mad Dogs is a book in the Cherub series. James Adams is caught between two gangs who are going to war. I loved this book as it was action packed and had some humour in the book. I would rate this book a 5/5.  :)

The book “Mad Dogs” by Robert Muchamore is a brilliant and heart stopping book and comes under the genre of action. Robert Muchamore has written many books and some of his books are; The Fall, The Sleepwalker, Class A, Divine Madness and The Recruit. Robert Muchamore was born in 1972 and spent thirteen years working as a private investigator which gave him inspiration and great ideas for his books. He has won numerous awards including 2005 Red House Children’s Book Award. All of Robert Muchamore’s books are really interesting and engaging. There is 12 books in The Cherub Series , 6 in The Henderson series and 2 in Cherub Series 2 with more to come in each series. The book Mad dogs (part of Cherub Series) is about two of the biggest gang clashes which causes war. There are shootings, beatings and stabbings and it is all up to Cherub Agents to put all of this to a stop. Just kids, not even 15 years old,  yet are put up to the challenge to stop the violence. The agents have to befriend members in the gangs and work with them but they don’t know that the agents are trying to stop what they are doing. One Cherub agent has been seriously injured,  but James Adams, Michael Hendry and Bruce Norris still continue on with the mission.

Michael Hendry, one of the Cherub agents  says “We’ve been at this for two months and Major Dee is really starting to put faith in us, besides after today there’s no way I’m going back to campus before these gangs are hammered”. This quotation really shows how determined the kids in the book are in order to help put a stop to violence and help people even if it means risking their own life. As I mentioned before, the genre of this book is action,  however at times there is humour, drama and romance making it a really engaging and exciting novel to read. When the author wrote this book I believe it was purely to entertain the audience with thrilling and exciting violence, humour, drama and romance. I definitely would recommend this book in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed this book as it is an eye opener with lots of twists and turns that are full of suspense and cliff hangers. I look forward to reading the other books in Robert Muchamore’s series.
