This year we are introducing a new component to the Inky Awards, as part of our soon to be launched Inside a Dog website. We’re offering teens (from anywhere in Australia with an decent internet signal) the opportunity to become one of our inaugural Shadow Judges.

This might suit you if you are interested in being an Inky Awards judge, and you especially love writing, but don’t think you’d be able to commit to reading the full twenty longlisted books as well as participate in the shortlist deliberations.

The Shadow Judges each receive five of the Inky Awards longlist titles for which you will share your opinions and judgements via the new Inside a Dog website (to be launched very soon). It’s a great opportunity to get your writing on the front page of the Inside a Dog and to be an important part of the Inky Awards excitement and conversation.

Shadow judges are expected to create five blog posts over four months – one blog post for every book received. These blog posts can be as inventive as you like, but should in some way be a response to the Inky Awards longlist title you have read.

Here are some examples of the kinds of content you could create:

  • a video post about your feelings on the book
  • writing a book review
  • creating a comic about your experience reading the book
  • fanart
  • a listicle

If you are interested, you can apply here . Applications close 9am AEST on 26 March.
