Applications Open for Readings Teens Advisory Board!

Okay all you Melbourne bookish teens who I know are reading this post. Independent book store Readings is looking for teens to join their 2019 -2020 Teens Advisory Board. But what is the Teens Advisory Board? I hear you ask.

‘The Readings Teen Advisory Board is a volunteer group of teenagers that meets at the Readings head office once a month to chat about recent and forthcoming young adult books, write blog posts and short reviews, learn about careers in the book industry, and provide feedback to Readings staff members on a range of subjects.

The board meets on the third Monday of each month at 4.30pm in Carlton and to apply you just have to write about why you would like to take part, the books you like to read and why you love visiting bookshops.  For more information go here to the Readings Website

Applications close 5pm, Friday 21 June.

This sounds really good, but I live in Bendigo and wouldn't be able to go without missing school :(

Check with the Bendigo Library to see if there are any other local opportunities like this. I know some libraries have teen advisory boards and some writers festival. If they don't - you could write to them and suggest that they do!

This sounds wonderful, I would love to apply yet, it's hard when you live in SA and you would have to go to Victoria every Monday. :(

I know it's hard when all the opportunities seem to be Melbourne based. But I encourage you to seek out the indie book stores and local libraries and writers festivals to find out what opportunities there are. You could even contact them and suggest they start a teen advisory board if they don't have one. Talk about teen lead programs and events!
