2019 Readings Young Adult Prize Shortlist

Today, independent bookstore Readings announced the shortlist for their Young Adult Prize. The prize celebrates new voices in Australian Young Adult literature, with first and second books from YA authors across Australia eligible.

The shortlisted books are:

Highway Bodies by Alison Evans

What I Like About Me by Jenna Guillaume

Stone Girl by Eleni Hale

Making Friends With Alice Dyson by Poppy Nwosu

Unmasked by Turia Pitt

The Learning Curves of Vanessa Partridge by Clare Strahan

From the Readings website says, “These are books that will resonate deeply with readers, open conversations, and invite new understandings. Above all, they exemplify the extraordinary power books have to empower, evoke and inform.”

The judging panel is made up from Readings expert staff and guest judge, award winning author (including Gold Inky Award Winner!) Cath Crowley along with feedback from the Teens Advisory Board. 

The winning book will be revealed in late July. This year, the winning author will receive prize money of $3000. Previous winners of the prize include 2018 Gold Inky longlisted Amelia Westlake by Erin Gough and 2017 shortlisted The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon.
