Embrace

Embrace, by Jessica Shirvington, is a book of romance and fantasy. It’s about a girl who has been drooling over this guy for more than a year.  She met him in a kick boxing class, though it was obvious he knew more than the teacher and so she ended up learning more from him. He offered to teach her more so they met together often to train.

The boy has secrets. But so has she.

When she turns 17, weird things happen. She notices a swirling pattern type tattoo on her wrist the morning of her birthday.  And its obvious Lincoln knows something about it.  What is this big secret he is keeping from her? When she stumbles upon Lincoln and a man talking about her, Lincoln is forced to explain. Lincoln tells her that she is a Grigori. You become Grigori when one of your parents (in this case, her mum) dies within 12 days of a child’s birth, an angel essence goes into them. After they turn 17 they will have to go through a test of some sort. It’s called ‘embracing’.

Then Phoenix comes in. She knows he is an exile and should stay away but she can’t. And now that Lincoln isn’t there for her anymore, she has Phoenix. But is he who he says he is? Or is it about what has not been said?

Lincoln also says that when Grigori embrace, they find out who they’re partner is, not romantic partner, but partner for their job. Which is to kill off exiled angels.  Violet doesn’t want to embrace, she wants to live a normal life. But when Lincoln is fatally injured, and she is the only one able to heal him, Phoenix takes her to embrace.  What she goes through is not something she wants to remember.

Does she survive the 'embrace'? Does she get there in time to save Lincoln? Does Violet find out who Phoenix really is? Will she get over her love for Lincoln, as it is impossible?

This is a book that you read when you want a little romance and a little action. This is one of my personal favourites.
