"We're going to New York to see our grandma and the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty and everything. And our granny's going to bake us her very own apple pie." She sounded so convincing. Some days I wondered who the Rat really was.
"What's your granny's name?" asked the officer.
That's it! The Rat's Little Red Riding Hood performance had ruined us.
"Grandma, of course."
I was relieved when I heard laughter. "Would you like to see our birth certificates?" said the Rat.
She always had to overdo it! She wouldn't be satisfied until we were locked up!

‘Unhooking the moon’ is a marvellous book written by Gregory Hughes. This story is written through Bob’s (main character) point of view. We meet the siblings, Bob and Rat (other main character) who will embark on an adventure that they will never forget.
Bob and Rat are brother and sister. Their mum had died a while ago, so now they live with their dad in Winnipeg, Canada. Bob and Rat have their ups and downs but they still and love and look after one another. Rat loves to play soccer and she always does bizarre things. On the other hand, Bob is the more mature one, as in telling Rat to not to do this.
Later on their dad dies, so poor Bob and Rat are left by themselves. They now become orphans. Besides them being stranded with no parents, there were paedophiles. Dad had a gambling problem and he had borrowed $10,000 from a paedophile. Dad didn’t have the money to pay him back, so the paedophile was planning revenge on Bob and Rat.
Bob and Rat are scared. They had no idea what was going to hit them. What would the paedophile do? When is he going to get back at us? They straight away ran home and slammed the door. This is when they decide to go to New York.
In New York, they catch up with their grandma, see the wonderful monuments and they also go on a quest to……
This book was very emotional at times, but it was very good book. Once I got into the actual good parts, I found myself that I couldn’t put it down. I felt that the book could have been better at the start because I found it quite boring. But overall it is certainly a good book and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to adventure novels.
