Trickster's Queen

Author:  Tamora Pierce

No longer a slave, Alanna's daughter is now spying as part of an underground rebellion against the colonial rulers of the Copper Isles. The people in the rebellion believe that a prophecy in which a new queen will rise up to take the throne is about to be realized. Aly is busy keeping the potential teenage queen and her younger siblings safe, while also keeping her in the dark about her future. But Aly, who is usually adept at anticipating danger and changes, is in for a few nasty surprises.

This book is about Alianne, the daughter of Allana the Lioness who is helping the Balitang family to make one of the elder daughters Queen of all of the Copper Isles. They first buy Aly as a slave after she ran away from home and was then captured by slave-traders.(But that was in the first book, Trickster's Choice). In this book Aly is promoted to family spymaster after she helped save the Balitangs on a number of occasions. Aly's relationship with one of the characters, Nawat Crow, (the crow that changed shape from a crow to a man in the first book)deepens the further into the book you read. After the lurain (white people) conquered over the people of the Iles (the raka-dark people) three hundred years ago, the raka have been waiting for a child who is twice royal to appear and rise to take the throne. Lady Saraiyu Balitang and Lady Dovasary Balitang's mother was descended from the Rittevon Throne and their father was related to the Tortallan Throne so they are therefore twice royal. The oppressed and poor raka people have been waiting for three hundred years for a proper Queen to take over the throne and during the book they look up to both potential Balitang girls and have hope that either of them may be the queen they have waited so long for.

Well obviously you would like this book if you enjoyed the first one. Also you might have liked the books by Emily Rodda because they are also filled with a great deal of adventure and magic.

It's the sequel to Trickster's Choice. The Balitangs and Aly return from exile and Aly continues her work on the raka rebellion. It focuses on the rebellion and making Imajane and Rubinyan seem unable to hold the Isles together (which of course they can't). Aly sets up a spy network in Rajumat to help her bring down the luarin and Rivetton rule.

The best part of this book was...
when the raka and some luarin nobles rebel and put the twice-royal queen on the throne.
This book is similar to...
anything else by Tamora Pierce. Also The Hobbit.
The best place to read this book is...
snuggled in the nook of something. Hard on the bottom, soft on the back.
The soundtrack of this book should be...
completly differing songs including ballads and hard rock.
