Guitar Highway Rose
Sometimes we know we shouldn't and that's exactly why we do.
Rosie Moon is restless. She wants to do something, be someone...be someone else. Asher is the new boy in her class. He has dreadlocks, a guitar and a case of the lonesome gypsy blues.
Some ideas are not born of logic and good sense. They sprout from nowhere and feed on excitement, sprinkled with adventure juice and the sweet flavour of the forbidden.
I enjoyed the scrapbook form of this story - sometimes thoughts, sometimes narrative, sometimes merely lists - it all adds up to a charming YA read. The ending was not as smooth as anticipated but I don't think that detracted from the plot, just didn't match the rest of the pace.
Guitar Rose Highway is a fun read. It is quirky, charming and vibrant story that captures the joy and angst of being a teen.
Lowry's writing has a very lyrical feel and also a little bit different. There is multiple points of views and no punctuation in parts, snapshots and poetry giving it a very unique format. It kind of feel likes a happy place between a verse and prose novel. Also this book is a little bit dated written in the late 90's and has a hippie-grunge kind of feel but I enjoyed it and the memories it brought back.
The story and the characters really capture how it feels to be a teen with such raw honesty. Focusing on how you feel your parents don't get you and the feeling of being restricted. It also has the parents' points of views in a couple of parts showing their feelings.
Rosie and Asher are amusing and heartwarming characters. They are the kind of characters that grow on you more and more as the story goes on and in the end you don't won't to say goodbye.
The is a touch of romance that is sweet, tender and a little bit awkward like first relationships are. It just brings a grin to your face.
this lazy lying down dance of love"
Overall, Guitar Rose Highway was an enjoyable, slightly off beat read that I wish I had read as a teen. I can't wait to read more from Lowry.
This is one of my all-time favourite novels. I read it for the first time when I was 12 years old and have continued to reread it every few years (I am now 24).
I highly recommend it!
a girl who hates her life and a boy who hats his life so they went on a road trip.
not many good things.
hippys and pot.
in the fire.
doesnt deserve one.
Two teenages who run away from home, they both go together because they have feelings for each other.
I really liked the story line. Also how it had sub titles to start different topics.
if it had a different ending..
just in a quiet environment
i've been everywhere.
the book is about teenagers and parents and evrything like that. it also has two kids runaway from there parents because they didnt like it where they were so they decied to go on an adventure together for a cuople of weeks.
the best thing about this book is how they runaway. Brigid Lowry makes it very interesting because its the way two teenagers would runaway.
You would like this book if you like to read about love, friends, family and teenagers at the age of 15.
would be somewhere quiet or with a group of people who are reading the same book
