Young criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl has received an important message from Russia. Later, he finds out that the message sent was from the criminals who kidnapped Artemis Fowl Senior (Artemis' Father). In his desperate attempt to save his father before time runs out, Artemis is forced to join sides with his nemesis, Captain Holly Short of the LEP Recon unit. As Artemis, Butler, Holly, Foaly and Root make attempts to save Artemis' father, all hell breaks loose back at Police Plaza because of an evil plan to take over the under-ground kingdom, and then kill all humans, devised by Foaly's greatest nemesis (Opal Koboi) along with an LEP "mole" (Briar Cudgeon). Foaly is caught in the cross-fire, and is trapped by Briar, who traps him in an operation booth designed by Foaly himself. With Foaly stuck, and unable to join the fight, Police Plaza starts to crumble, giving Artemis and the team limited time and resources to save the world and Artemis Senior. In Artemis' ventures, the team is reunited with a familiar fugitive (Mulch), who was part of the LEP unit, but now is used as their "ace in the hole", and helps the team gain access into Opal's lab where they finally confront Opal and Briar and take them both down. To conclude, they make a trip to the Arctic for a final attempt to rescue Artemis' father, which worked out in the end, and Artemis was reunited with his dear father.
