Alanna: The First Adventure is a tale about a girl who has been fated to go to a Convent, learn the ways of a lady and sorcery but instead wants to become the first female knight to learn how to wield a sword and become protector of Tortall. But in order to do so, she had to disguise herself as a boy, swapping places with her twin brother Thom.
This book is about the hardships that Alanna has to go through in order to achieve her goal. Even when the times were really tough, being the stubborn Alanna, she was, she remained strong and stuck by her friends and family.

Set in a magical world of Tortall, this book is a tale about a set of twins, who look very much alike and have magical powers. There mother died giving birth to them and there father is more interested in his books than his children. The twin girl Alanna is to go to a convent and the twin boy Thom to go and train to be a knight. The twins hate this idea and decide to swap places. Alanna chops off her hair and changes her name to Alan so she can disguise her self as a boy and can train to become a knight, and Thom travels to the convent as Alanna's twin brother to study magic.
This story follows the life of Alanna as she walks the path to becoming a knight. It shows the trouble that comes with disguising her self as a boy, her stubbornness to become who she wants to become, the training that she must do to prove herself to others and the decisions she must make for love.
The Song Of The Lioness is the first book in the series of four books.

The best part of this book was...
Alanna is a role model that young and older girls can look up too. She teaches girls that no matter who you are, you can become who you want to be.
