While you were sleeping - Inky Awards, Rose and Thorn and on the radio in the US.

Some nights (most nights) I stay up very late writing. When the world is asleep and I'm alone, this is when I'm most productive. With only my fellow night-owl friends (usually writers and artists) and editors in the US and England to distract me, things get done. I don't think I could do what I do without this time, for which all thanks must go to my wonderful wife, Megan - If you see Megan on the street, please start one of those slow claps which is quickly taken up by random strangers until everyone is just cheering her as she walks past.

This morning, I crawled into bed at about 5am, having started the night writing on a strange world in a galaxy far, far away and ending the night writing a love scene under a star-lit sky on a pirate ship.
I woke up to find that the world, as it does, has moved on without me but still involved me in it.

First up, I've seen that The Deep: Here Be Dragons has made the longlist for a Gold Inky Award!

On behalf of myself, James Brouwer and Gestalt Publishing, thank you very much to anyone who was involved in choosing our book for this honour.
The Nekton family also asked me to pass on their thanks and congratulations to all of the books who made the longlist (the Nektons may be fictional but that's no excuse for rudeness).

Next up, I heard I was on the radio in Philadelphia. I was interviewed about all things Star Wars for the radio show 'Fictional Frontiers' last week and apparently it aired while I was in bed - a severe case of talking in your sleep.  Not sure when it will be podcast but you can listen to the last time I was on the show right here.

Fictional Frontiers with Sohaib - (Episode 194) - Tom Taylor Extended Exclusive

And last up, a new story I've written for DC Comics, Rose and Thorn, has been solicited for September. Which means I can finally share the concept and the stunning cover by Ryan Sook.

NATIONAL COMICS: ROSE AND THORN #1
Written by TOM TAYLOR
Art by NEIL GOOGE
Cover by RYAN SOOK
On sale SEPTEMBER 26 • 40 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T
• The classic DC character Rose and Thorn is taken in a compelling new direction!
• Can a teenage girl with a dark secret, readjusting to life after being institutionalized, learn how to live again?

So, there you have it. The things that happened while I was sleeping... or possibly while I was continually smacking the snooze button.

As always, feel free to post any comments or questions in the comment section or find me on twitter.
